In May of 1973, Peachy brothers of Augusta, poured the slab and erected a 40x100 building on the fairgrounds which was the first building to start the Windsor Historical Society. Before that, the artifacts were in the fair Exibition Hall. One of the first acquisitions was the original Windsor Post office, along with a steel postage stamp from Mabel Charles. It was also home to a country store, kitchen, parlor and bedroom. The rug design that Rosa Prime and Dot Baker stenciled on the bedroom floor is still visible in what is now the sewing room. The kitchen has since been relaced by a Tin Shop.We also have many other interesting rooms. Walking through the museum is a well remembered experience!
We are now a museum complex hosting 13 buildings set in the image of a small Maine village. The first building however still holds interesting artifacts. Demonstrations are held at the printing press and tin shop during Windsor Fair.
